Hockey
Field hockey may not be a contact sport but it can still be very physical which is why strength, balance and dynamic stability are key components of the game and the way it’s played today. Hockey requires you to move effectively with and without possession of the ball, evading tackles whilst dribbling and leading into space for a pass are just two examples.
Similar to football, hockey requires a high level of stamina, speed and agility from every player, no matter the position you play. We can provide the perfect tools to compliment your stick skills and help improve your fitness, quickness and agility to prepare you for the long season ahead!
Those of you who’ve had experience playing or watching the game, you’ll probably notice that for a majority of the game the players are very low to the ground (squatting, lunging) which is why leg strength is vital, you need to be able to load the legs and keep your chest upright so you can see what’s going on around you and more importantly, prevent injuring your back. We make strength training fun as well as functional, which can only have a positive impact on your hockey performance.
Another key aspect of hockey is rotary power, pushing, slapping, hitting and flicking the ball whether for passing or shooting requires a great amount of trunk rotation and if you aren’t conditioned it can put a lot of pressure on your lower back, which left untreated could lead to long term problems away from the pitch. We are able to give you the hockey specific core training you need to get the most efficient movement pattern from your hit/push/slap and protect against injury even into extra time.
When you’re out on the pitch it’s very hard to hide from fitness, having the edge over your opponent helps you win those one on one battles and we have the experience to help you reach a new potential, no matter the level you’re playing at! At Coastal Fitness we can give you the hockey specific fitness training to improve your game and take it to the next level!
