Swimming

“I can run for hours or go to the gym and lift weights but as soon as I get into the pool, 2 lengths of freestyle and I’m holding on to the side gasping for air.”

The 'Butterfly' stroke is one of the most physically demanding movements in a pool

Why is it that people who are generally pretty fit, strong and lead a healthy and active lifestyle added to water struggle? I’m not going to lie; a major part of swimming effectively is all in the technique and ploughing up and down the lanes continuously to build up your swimming stamina but improving flexibility and total body strength can also help.

Swimming is unlike any other exercise because you have to use all of your large muscle groups simultaneously to propel you through the water which is why a lot people find it difficult; traditional training looks at single joint strength isolation instead of total body exercises so the body isn’t used to coordinating and moving as a whole efficiently.

Swimming is great for toddlers and children as well as adults!

Whether you’re looking to improve a specific stroke or your overall performance in the pool then sport specific training could be what you’re looking for.
