FILMING YOUR TRAINING
BY: ED HAYNES
I’m a big advocate of filming yourself whilst training, with the purpose of specifically searching for asymmetries in movement.
You don’t need to be a movement expert to see that one side of your body moves different from another. It also doesn’t necessarily mean that the training process needs to change entirely just because of an imbalance.
Sometimes simply recognising an imbalance is all that is needed – In our next set, or our next session, by focusing on moving in a more symmetrical way, we can start to clean up a lot of the issues, and thus start the process of structurally balancing ourselves.
Yes, there are times where single limb training, manual therapy, rehab and prehab work will be necessary, but I think that we are too quick to start looking for answers from professionals, rather than trying to treat our dysfunction ourselves.
So folks, buy yourself a cheap tripod and start filming yourself.
