KEY TO GOING BACK TO THE GYM AFTER COVID CLOSURE: COMMUNICATION

Whether you are a member, a business owner, or a coach heading back to the gym after COVID-19 closure, our biggest piece of advice is to COMMUNICATE.
If you are an athlete/member, communicate with your coach and with yourself. Your coach cannot read your mind to know what you have been doing, how you are feeling, or what you want to achieve – make sure you let them know what you are ready for, if your goals/aspirations have changed, and if you need to pull back, or even if you are ready to push harder.
Look within yourself: re-evaluate what is important to you, and communicate with yourself on what you want to achieve when you head back to the gym. You have a clean slate now, make sure that you are training with purpose and that each session is done with intention. Always listen to your body, and go back to training forgetting about who you were before closure, and focus on, everyday, taking steps to getting better.
If you are a business owner, we can’t express how important it is to continuously communicate, open & honestly, with your community and with your staff. Let your team be a part of all of your decisions, make sure they are the first to know what is going on, and continuously seek their support and guidance when navigating challenging times. Always be honest with your community, and communicate effectively on what the company is doing to ensure their safety, what new procedures or policies are being implemented and WHY, and receive feedback from them as a gift.
If you are a coach, communicate with your team, your clients, and with your business – communicate how you are feeling, what you need, and be honest about what you can handle. Communicate your schedule, when you need time off, when you are open to doing more, and when you need time to do what makes you happy. Learn to say no, and don’t get so caught up in the hustle, that you forget what is important to you.
Good luck on embarking this new journey – there will definitely be challenges, but there are so many opportunities and possibilities for growth and betterment.
